It feels like all I have done is travel this year - two mini trips to Mexico City, a week in Playa del Carmen with my sister and now, last week, Shack and I took off to NYC for a few days of fun before he starts his next block of work that looks like it might take him straight through to Christmas. For now, I am staying put and jumping right back into work with a supper club for 25 tomorrow night at the Deppaneur.
The good, the bad and the ugly of last week's getaway:
We booked through Travelocity because we had to book it the same day and Expedia, my usual go to for flight/hotel deals, doesn't do same day travel. Are we weird because we sometimes decide to go away at 8am and want to leave before supper that same day?
all I will say is:
DO NOT STAY AT THE NIGHT HOTEL - THERE ARE TWO RIGHT NEAR TIMES SQUARE AND I CAN ONLY ASSUME THE OTHER ONE WAS JUST AS TERRIBLE AS THE ONE WE WERE BOOKED INTO.
What Shack looked kind of cool and retro, in reality, looked like the set for the upcoming American Horror Story "Canadians Must Die".
I would love to share some pictures but I can't because it was too dark to even take any photos. When I tried to turn on the light beside the bed, a screw fell off and rolled down on the stained rug. Oh yes it did.
I know it's a first world problem, but there were no outlets beside either side of the bed which makes me crazy. It's 2019 and 99% of travellers are going to want to plug in their phones and ipads on the night table so get with the program. Oh and there was a wild party going on in the next room until sunrise which only heightened the sketchiness of the establishment. I imagined a Miami Vice era cocaine and heavy gold chain situation.
Travelocity was no help so I finally just booked us into the hotel I wanted in the first place,
Hotel 50 The Bowery, and we escaped The Night Hotel in one piece.
Note to self: Don't use Travelocity again and don't let anyone else choose the hotel as I have excellent hotel mojo.

After a wasted morning, attempting to get Travelocity to relocate us, I booked us into another hotel, we checked out and made our way downtown to the beautiful Hotel 50 The Bowery. We didn't do anything crazy and we pretty much stuck to the neighbourhood. We bundled up and walked and walked, we ate, we saw a comedy show and did a tenement tour, which is one of those things I always mean to do but never get around to. Stay tuned for a more indepth look on Auburn Lane, but for now, some photos.
