My Paris Notebook: My Six Favourite Meals in The City of Lights

the frisée aux lardons of my dreams from La Plomb du Cantal We might not travel the way other people do. We almost never stay in a hotel, preferring to rent an apartment in a more residential area so that, along with having more room as far as lodgings go, we kind of get a taste of what it might be like to live there. We try to eat in typical neighbourhood restaurants, dining with the residents who live and work near by, preferring to make the occasional mistake while ordering off the menu in a language we are not fluent in over being given an english tourist menu upon being seated. We also don't hit all of the big tourist sites, instead choosing just a couple of them and spending the rest of our time getting lost and walking from morning til night. I actually lived in Paris briefly when I was barely out of my teens and although I don't remember many details, I do recall that I loved Montmartre so when I went looking on airbnb, that was one of the neighbourhoods I ...

A Pop Up and a Pressure Cooker Workshop Walked Into A Bar.........

Image
As I edit my Paris/Rome photos like a maniac and get ready to start sharing my trip with you, I thought I would just let everybody know that I have two fun things to share for my Toronto peeps: Next week, on Thursday April 6, I will be cooking up a storm at The Kingston Social but this time, it will be my menu only that night! There will be plenty of goodness for meat eats and vegetarians alike and full bar service so make sure to stop by, grab a bite and say hi On Monday April 10, I will be holding my latest Instant Pot workshop at the Deppaneur and you can book a spot, online, here For this class I will show you how to make a tasty Potato Leek Soup, Mushroom Risotto, Spicy White Bean on polenta and what is probably the most popular Instant Pot (any brand of electric pressure cooker is welcome so don't let not owning an actual Instant Pot stop you from coming), the cheesecake. Also, hold June 15 for my next Loblaws class - Healthier Mexican

Pierogi or Pedaheh, Call It What You Want But Don't Call Me Late For Supper

So, After searching for my recipe for pierogies in vain, I realized that I had posted it on my other blog, NoReEats  and it was originally posted on Feb 14, 2011. NoReEats was a year long challenge with two friends where we all commited to never repeating a recipe for dinner for an entire year. Each of us had to share a dinner twice a week (sharing the 7th day on a rotation) and, let me tell you, it was the WORST year of my life. Even the most creative cook with the most receptive family falls back on family favourites and when you take those away, pandemonium ensues. Normally, I repost just the recipe when I do this and skip whatever I wrote to precede it but this one was funny and I felt like it deserved a full repost. It has it all: marital discord over food pine mouth a great recipe So, in the spirit of #TBT or #ThrowBackThursday I give you How a Pierogi Saved My Marriage Feb 10   Garlic Roasted Cauliflower Pasta Feb 11   Sopa de Lima Feb 12 ...
